New Dark Phoenix Trailer May Be Arriving Soon

It looks like a new trailer is about to hit for X-Men: Dark Phoenix. This news comes after the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) officially gave the new third trailer a passing rating, meaning it is completed and ready for release.

The official running time of the new Dark Phoenix trailer checks in at 1:23, according to the BBFC. The classification of the rating was listed on Feb. 12, so the new trailer could hit anytime in the next few weeks.

For fans who were worried that Disney would shelf any X-movies that were completed after tits acquisition of Fox, both Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants will be released -- although the latter movie will possibly hit streaming services instead of getting a theatrical release.

Dark Phoenix will be the second time that Fox tried to tell the classic X-Men story of Jean Grey losing herself to the dark powers of the Phoenix and finding herself at odds with her friends and teammates. The first attempt, X-Men: The Last Stand, remains one of the worst-received X-Men movies to date.

That earlier movie showed the Dark Phoenix Saga alongside the mutant cure storyline and dealt with a character the fans had grown to love over the first two films. The new film looks to center mostly on the Dark Phoenix, but with the struggle of focusing the tragedy on a character that hasn't played a significant role in the young X-Men franchise, outside of the story being hinted at in X-Men: Apocalypse.

The movie also seems to change the entire basis behind the Dark Phoenix by introducing an alien shapeshifter portrayed by Jessica Chastain. Could she be this movie's version of Mastermind? The third trailer could possibly explore the new movie's story a little more.

Written and directed by X-franchise veteran Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain. The film is scheduled to be released on June 7.
