Writer Kieron Gillen has revealed that he is leaving the Marvel Star Wars comics line following the upcoming Star Wars #67.

Gillen has been a part of the Marvel Star Wars comics since the publisher took over the Star Wars license from Dark Horse in 2015. Gillen currently writes the main Star Wars title and previously worked on Darth Vader. He even co-created the fan-favorite character Doctor Aphra alongside artist Salvador Larroca. And now, Gillen is leaving the line he helped to define.

In the latest edition of his newsletter World Mail, Gillen confirmed that Star Wars #67 will be his last issue on the title and in the wider Star Wars universe for the foreseeable future.

"I have three issues left to write in 'The Scourging of Shu-Torun,'" Gillen revealed. "That's issue 67, the end of my story, and I'll be off. No present plans to write anything else in Star Wars – I suspect I've said all I've wanted to about these characters in comics. At least in this period, anyway."

While he could always return to the franchise in the future, Star Wars #67, written by Kieron Gillen and with art by Angel Unzueta, is scheduled to be released in March. No replacement writer has been announced, although that will likely change when the upcoming Marvel solicitations for April 2019 are released.
