Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, Amazon Prime and a whole host of others are actively vying for attention in a crowded market, and this year will see the arrival of a new challenger for views with the introduction of Disney+. The service will become the defacto home for everything under the Disney banner, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and the Muppets, along with various other Disney productions and anything brought in by the Fox merger.

Variety reports that Disney is putting "real money" into certain projects, with most of the focus reportedly going towards upcoming Marvel and Star Wars content.

This likely includes Star WarsThe Mandalorian and the slew of rumored Marvel shows like Loki. The pay scales for projects under those banners are said to be impressive, but at the cost of reduced cash for other projects.

The atmosphere at Disney is described as "tense," with Disney CEO Bob Iger trying to get a number of projects onto the streaming service before he steps down from the position in 2021.

Disney is expected to hold an Investor Day presentation on April 11 to introduce the world to the service and the kind of content it can be expected to produce.

Disney+ is expected to become available by the end of 2019.
